Call of Duty’s The Haunting event is live in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone, and the Halloween-themed event brings a nighttime Al Mazrah map with demons, limited-time zombie modes on Vondel, new cosmetic rewards to unlock, and spooky limited-time equipment to use. Here’s everything changing with the big event.
The Haunting delivers the new Soul Capture event. Much like the popular Trophy Hunt event from Season 3, players can collect souls from eliminated players. These collected souls are banked across all game modes in multiplayer, battle royale, and DMZ, and these can be traded for rewards in the event tab. Additionally, there are daily login rewards to earn even more Halloween-themed items, such as a pumpkin weapon charm and evil goat emblem.

This Halloween event includes spooky map changes and new modes to play. Warzone players can expect the Operation Nightmare event on a nighttime version of Al Mazrah,” where players will be tasked with sending monsters back to hell. The Vondel map has two zombies-themed modes with Vondead and the return of Warzone 1’s Zombie Royale. The multiplayer side includes two spooky map reskins for the holiday. El Asilo celebrates Día de Muertos, while Embassy becomes a nighttime map themed around a bloody zombie attack.
For a limited time, some of Modern Warfare 2’s equipment will be “haunted” with different effects than normal. The suppression mine field upgrade becomes the Sound Veil Scream variant, and those stepping into the sound wave will be met with “hallucinatory audio assault as the air fills with the screams of the dead.” The decoy grenade tactical equipment has changed audio to include “inhuman and monstrous sounds” peppered with gunfire.
Other spooky equipment is available but limited to only the battle royale side of Warzone. This includes the new Haunted Box field upgrade. The box refills plates, ammo, and equipment, but it comes at the cost of a potential jump scare.
The shop also contains spooky Halloween-themed bundles, including Skeletor from the Masters of the Universe franchise and Ash Williams from the Evil Dead.
Weapon balancing was not included in the Haunting update, but the developer’s patch notes detail that weapon tuning can be expected later in the season. The full patch notes can be found below, as shared by Activision.

The Haunting Returns
Prepare for frightening thrills, the shambling undead, squad hunts to take down grotesque monsters, and those infamous jump-scares as The Haunting returns! The Haunting event brings Halloween-themed Maps, Modes, Events and more across both games.
The Haunting: Soul Capture Event
Available across Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone, the Soul Capture Event is an enhanced and fear-inducing variation on the popular Trophy Hunt Event from Season 03. Available across all game modes, any time a Player is eliminated, they leave a Soul behind. Collect these Souls, which are automatically added to your total in all game modes (meaning there’s no need to visit a Buy Station in Call of Duty: Warzone or DMZ this time), and trade them for items shown in the Events Tab.

A Haunting Twist on Classic Modes
Along with changes to Maps, The Haunting also brings Halloween twists to a select number of modes. While the overall objectives may be the same, try not to get scared out of your wits while completing them.
Haunting Domination Own all the control points on the map as usual. However, in this version of Domination, expect a Scarecrow to act as a marker for each flag.Haunting Kill Confirmed & Grind Instead of Dog Tags, collect skulls in Grind and Kill Confirmed.Trick or Treat Capture and hold the Drop Zone to earn points for your team, but take care while opening any crates . . . who knows what might jump out at you!Zombies Infected Zombies swarm to Infected. Players who become infected will appear as The Haunting–themed Zombies.

The Halloween spirit is alive and well with two Haunting map updates: El Asilo celebrates Día de Muertos, while Embassy becomes the site of a devastating zombie attack.
El Asilo
Larger-than-life calaveras stand outside the asylum, looking over the festivities of Día de Muertos. Other painted and neon skulls decorate the landscape alongside marigolds, candles, and altars that honor lost loved ones.
Embassy
Diplomacy has broken down: Conduct an evening operation on Embassy following a gruesome zombie attack. The message “Send Help” hangs suspended from the rooftop, but it’s far too late . . . the zombie attack has already come and gone, leaving structural havoc and corporeal damage in its wake.
