Free Range Games has released the opening cinematic for The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, and it’s narrated by a very famous and well-known actor from the movie series. John Rhys-Davies, who played Gimli in Peter Jackson’s movie series, reprises the role for the opening cinematic.
Free Range is releasing cinematic today, October 17, to celebrate Durin’s Day. Additionally, Rhys-Davies will speak with Nerd of the Rings today at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET to discuss his role in the game and more. The opening cinematic sets up some of the story and has very wholesome vibes about dwarves teaming up to… return to Moria.

Now Playing: The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria – Official Opening Cinematic Trailer
Return to Moria is set in the Fourth Age of Middle-earth, taking players deep into the mines of Moria as dwarves on a quest to reclaim lost treasure. The game supports solo and co-op, and is priced at $40 USD. The game launches on October 24 for PS5 and PC, before coming to Xbox Series X|S in 2024.
The PC edition is exclusive to the Epic Games Store at launch.
Return to Moria is one of a handful of Lord of the Rings games in development now. Effects studio Weta’s gaming division is making the cozy-looking Tales of the Shire, while Amazon is developing a new Lord of the Rings MMO after its first one fell apart.
