The Finish the Masterwork Weapon quest is a mission that’s begun by simply reading a piece of paper behind a barrel inside of a broken-down house in Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s quite the peculiar start to a quest. However, this strange beginning leads to one of the most beautiful and dangerous locations in the entire game. You will have to find a piece of Sussur Tree Bark here, which is quite a difficult item to find if you don’t know where to look. Sussur Tree Bark is required to craft the masterwork weapon and complete this side quest in Baldur’s Gate 3, so check out the guide below to see how to find it.
Finding Sussur Tree Bark
For this quest, you will have to travel to the Underdark. This is the subterranean location in Baldur’s Gate 3, and it can be accessed in a few different ways. You can go through the Defiled Temple, use the Featherfall Spell to go down the spider’s pit in the Whispering Depths dungeon, or go down the elevator at the Zhentarim Hideout. Regardless of how you do it, reaching the Underdark is the first step to finding the tree bark.
Once you’re there, you want to reach the Sussur Tree waypoint, which is located on the far western side of the Underdark map. You can see where it is relative to the other waypoints in the Underdark in the map screenshot below.
Once you reach the Sussur Tree waypoint, you will have to make your way to the exact location where the player icons are in the screenshot above. This will lead you to a massive tree growing in the center of a glowing pit. You might have to fight a couple of Hooked Horror enemies here, but after you defeat them, make your way to the center of this tree by walking on the branches.
On the south side of the tree, there is a single spot where you can loot Sussur Tree Bark. My recommendation is to just move your cursor all over the tree until you see an orange outline, which is the tree bark. You can also view the screenshot below to see its exact location on the tree.
From here, all you need to do is loot the Sussur Tree Bark and bring it back to the Blighted Village house where you started the Finish the Masterwork Weapon quest. Go through the wood doors at the bottom of the house (on the outside of it), and make sure you have a plain Sickle, Greatsword, or Dagger with you. Head to the furnace at the end of the room and click on it to insert the Sussur Tree Bark from your inventory.
All that’s left to do now is to click on the furnace again while it’s lit and select one of the three plain weapons you brought with you. Inserting one of these weapons into the furnace will craft a Sussur version of it. The Sussur version of the weapons silences enemies when you hit them with it.
You have now completed the Finish the Masterwork Weapon quest in Baldur’s Gate 3.
