Ryan Reynolds has shared the first photo of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool 3. Posted to the actor’s Instagram story, the image shows Deadpool and Wolverine walking side-by-side down a sandy path. Jackman looks jacked (because he ate a lot of chicken and trained hard) and is also sporting the iconic Wolverine sideburns and hair.
Deadpool 3 is a team-up starring Deadpool and Wolverine, and it also brings back Jennifer Garner as Elektra from the movies Daredevil and Elektra. No photos of Garner as Elektra have been revealed as of yet, though. Deadpool 3 is filming now, so it’s expected more images from set to appear.
Jackman’s Wolverine died at the end of the movie Logan, so how is he coming back for Deadpool 3? Yep, you guessed it–the answer involves Marvel’s favorite storytelling device: the multiverse.
Shawn Levy, who previously worked with Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project, is directing the film. Alongside Reynolds, Jackman, and Garner, returning actors include Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Rob Delaney as Peter.
Deadpool 3 is currently set to release on May 4, 2024. Despite now being technically a Disney film, the movie will earn its hard R rating and should feel similar to the past two.
