Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom – All Master Kohga Boss Fights Guide

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Master Kohga boss fights all take place in the Depths region. As you proceed onward, you’ll reach new Zonai facilities, and you’ll have to face this foe while atop his latest contraption. Here’s our guide to help you defeat Master Kohga in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to beat Master Kohga in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

We should probably note that venturing forth into the Depths is not for the faint of heart. There are numerous challenges to face, from the otherworldly darkness to the deadly Gloom debuff. You can take a look at our Depths and Chasms overview to help you prepare.

In any case, there are a total of four Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Master Kohga boss fights. These are all part of the Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan quest chain. The objective is to follow the direction that the statues are facing, which will eventually lead you to facilities where Kohga is waiting for you. Each encounter that you complete nets you a Schema Stone, basically a schematic for the Autobuild system.

Encounter #1: Great Abandoned Central Mine

Kohga is riding what can only be described as a monster truck-battering ram hybrid. Since this is the first encounter, it’s also relatively simple and straightforward. The goal is to stay on top of your makeshift vehicle, which will prevent Kohga from running you over. Then, when he’s about to drop a boulder, simply run sideways to avoid it.

When the casting animation is done, hop on his truck and whack him. This will stun your opponent, and you can continue striking him until he reappears.

Encounter #2: Abandoned Gerudo Mine

This Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Master Kohga boss battle sees your foe flying a plane. The first phase is easy enough, as he simply tries to beeline for you while flames jet from the underside of the plane. Then, once he’s below 50% HP, he’ll start firing explosive missiles. The idea is to hide behind pillars to let those missiles explode further away from you.

As for dealing damage, we advise completing the Hebra/Rito main quest first, as you’ll have access to Tulin’s Wind Burst ability. With it, you can use the Zonai Fan nearby. Strike it to float upward, then aim with your bow to slow down time. One hit with an arrow will be enough to stun Kohga. However, if he’s too far away, then you’ll have wasted your opportunity. This is where Tulin’s Wind Burst comes in, since you can quickly close the distance.

Encounter #3: Abandoned Lanayru Mine

This fight is one of the easiest, assuming you’ve already completed the Eldin/Goron city main quest for Yunobo’s Rolling Fireball ability. Basically, Kohga is assisted by two Yiga Ninjas, who’ll pelt you with arrows from afar. The good news is that Yunobo’s ability makes quick work of all hostiles.

When you ride a boat, you’ll be able to launch Yunobo toward Kohga’s ship. Hitting his two cronies will cause them to drown and die. And, if you hit Kohga, he’ll get stunned as well. We didn’t even notice any changes during Phase 2 since we just lathered, rinsed, and repeated the process, with Yunobo carrying the day.

Encounter #4: Abandoned Hebra Mine

The last battle against Master Kohga in Zelda: Tears in the Kingdom takes place in the Abandoned Hebra Mine. Getting there, however, isn’t as straightforward as the previous encounters. You can learn more in our Hebra Mine location guide.

In any case, Kohga will be riding a giant Zonai Construct, and you’ll have to take him on in a caged arena. Your enemy has a few notable abilities:

Homing Bombs – Three bombs will appear in mid-air and float toward you before exploding. You can shoot these with your bow to make them explode prematurely.Laser Beams – When Kohga places the robot’s arms down, two beams will erupt. To stop this casting animation, simply run up to the robot and hit it a few times. This will cause it to get pushed to the spiked barricades, stunning it temporarily.Defense Matrix – If you’re aiming at Kohga with your bow, the robot will protect him. However, the action will get canceled as he’s moving toward you. As such, you can still land a clean shot.

The goal is to use the above methods to negate Kohga’s projectiles. Then, counter with your own projectiles by hitting him with clean arrow shots to cause a temporary stun. If the opportunity arises, you’ll want to continue striking him with your melee weapon, until he gets pushed to the spikes. That’s what will cause the most damage to him.

After beating this annoying-but-funny opponent for the fourth time in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll complete the Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan quest.
