Learn To Love The 6/10 Games

Not every game can be The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, receiving nigh-perfect scores from dozens of outlets. In the latest episode of The Kurt Locker, Kurt Indovina puts the spotlight on some of his favorite 6/10 titles, like Wanted: Dead.

In fact, Kurt says Wanted: Dead is his favorite 6/10 game this year. Sure, it’s a bit of a mess and only features one karaoke song: 99 Luftballons. But Kurt loves it for its wackiness, especially the ramen knowledge.

Now Playing: You Should Play More 6/10 Games | The Kurt Locker

Kurt argues that review scores mean different things to different people. “For a lot of people, a 6 can be an immediate ‘no, thank you.’ But the thing is bad games, even the most aggressively mediocre ones, can be loved and great games in their own right,” he says.

The GameSpot review scale makes it clear that a 6 means fair (not bad). Additionally, a 5 denotes a mediocre score. These could ultimately be titles that you love.

For example, Kurt’s Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise review ends with a 5 score. But, he reveals he’s since played through the game again and even on a different console. Lower scores lead to him being more intrigued to check them out. He namechecks X-Files: Resist or Serve, Flower Sun, and Rain, D2, and Gungrave G.O.R.E. (which is on Xbox Game Pass) as titles that currently scratch that itch.

Wacky and novel ideas are rarely found in blockbuster games these days, Kurt says. Instead, they can be found in 6/10 titles. Previously, Kurt wondered if there are too many remakes.
