Titanfall 3 Would Have To Be The "Right Thing" For It To Make Sense, Respawn Boss Says

Titanfall developer Respawn’s new game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, releases this week, but what would the studio make next? Will it be Titanfall 3? We don’t know, but Respawn founder Vince Zampella said in a new interview that he would “love” to see Titanfall 3 come out some day.

Speaking to Barron’s (via PC Gamer), Zampella said of Titanfall 3, “We’re not working on anything currently. I hate to say yes, then people latch onto that, and then skewer you when it doesn’t come. But I would love to see it happen is the real answer.”

Zampella founded Respawn and worked on Titanfall (2014) and Titanfall 2 (2016). Fans have been calling for Titanfall 3 for years, but Respawn has focused on its other franchises like Apex Legends and its Star Wars projects.

If Respawn does return to the Titanfall series, it would have to be the “right thing,” Zampella said. “It’s such a beloved franchise for the fans and also for us. If it is not the right moment in time, the right idea, then it just doesn’t make sense.”

Zampella went on to say that Apex Legends exists in the Titanfall universe, so that’s at least something for fans who want more Titanfall. But Zampella hears the calls for another dedicated Titanfall game and said, “It’s a hard question to answer, but ultimately I would love to see something.”

A new Titanfall game, Titanfall Frontline, was announced for mobile devices years ago and was canceled in 2017.

In addition to his duties at Respawn, Zampella is the boss of DICE LA and is helping to shape the future direction of the Battlefield series.

Titanfall 2 was released a week after Battlefield 1 and a week before Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, a move that some believed negatively impacted its sales. EA CEO Andrew Wilson did not agree with this theory, saying Titanfall 2 was distinct enough from those games to stand out and succeed on its own.

In terms of future projects from Respawn, the company continues to support Apex Legends with new content and updates. Beyond that, Respawn is working on multiple new Star Wars games, including an FPS that it’s developing internally and a strategy game that it’s producing alongside developer Bit Reactor.
