James Gunn Continues To Shoot Down Unfounded DC Studios Rumors

The new co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn, has shot down another unfounded rumor about who might play Superman next with Henry Cavill moving on from the role.

Posting on Twitter, Gunn responded to the unfounded speculation that Jacob Elordi (The Kissing Booth) could play Superman next. Gunn said, “My thoughts are no one has been cast as Superman yet.”

Adding some further clarity and context, Gunn said casting for a new Superman actor will come when a script is “finished or close to finished.” And in the case of the next Superman film, this hasn’t happened yet.

Fans eager for more news about the next Superman movie should get comfortable. While DC is planning to announce “a few things” in the “not too long” future, Gunn said, casting for the next Superman won’t be one of them.

In 2022, Cavill announced that he would return to play Superman, and later confirmed he would leave The Witcher to presumably make room for this. However, not long after, it was confirmed that Cavill The Hollywood Reporter.

Cavill may yet return to play Superman once again, but not yet. “In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill,” Gunn explained. “But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”

It’s still pretty early days for the next Superman project, so there is no word yet on a script, casting, a release date, or anything else pertaining to the film.
