Good Omens Season 2 Adds New Cast – Report

The cast for Season 2 of Amazon and BBC’s Neil Gaiman fantasy series Good Omens has been announced, according to Deadline. The next batch of episodes adapting the acclaimed 1990 fantasy book by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett was announced back in June 2021.

As of this writing, the news largely functions as a confirmation of who will be returning and reprising their roles from Season 1–the sole newcomers, so far, are Dame Siân Phillips (Dune), Tim Downie (Outlander), Pete Firman (The Magicians), Andi Osho (I May Destroy You), and Alex Norton (Pirates of the Caribbean). Their roles are still undisclosed, and the show is currently in production in Scotland.

Returning will be Derek Jacobi (I, Claudius), Mark Gatiss (Sherlock), Steve Pemberton (Killing Eve), and Reece Shearsmith (Inside No. 9). Michael Sheen and David Tennant, starring respectively as the angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley, who in Season 1 formed an unlikely alliance to save the world, will be coming back.

Deadline is reporting that Benedict Cumberbatch and Frances McDormand won’t be back for Season 2.

In a statement last year, Gaiman said of the upcoming season, “It’s thirty-one years since Good Omens was published, which means it’s thirty-two years since Terry Pratchett and I lay in our respective beds in a Seattle hotel room at a World Fantasy Convention, and plotted the sequel. I got to use bits of the sequel in Good Omens–that’s where our angels came from. Terry’s not here any longer, but when he was, we had talked about what we wanted to do with Good Omens, and where the story went next. And now, thanks to BBC Studios and Amazon, I get to take it there.”

Good Omens isn’t the only Gaiman adaptation on its way to a streaming platform. Netflix’s Sandman show is currently in production, and stars Tom Sturridge as Dream, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, and Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer.
