Spider-Man: No Way Home's Jon Watts Joins Final Destination 6 As Producer

Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts and his wife Dianne McGunigle (Cop Car) have joined Final Destination 6 as producers for New Line Cinema, according to Variety.

“Both Dianne and I have been massive fans of Final Destination from the very beginning,” Watts said in a statement. “So to be able to have a hand in crafting a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be both fun and exciting.”

News about the series has been relatively quiet since the pandemic. In 2019, there was talk of a new “re-imagining” of the Final Destination series for a rebooted sixth film, though that version of the film–with Saw writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan attached to write the story–may not be the one that hits theaters. Last fall, it was announced that Guy Busick (2022’s Scream, Castle Rock) would co-write the screenplay with Lori Evans Taylor (Wicked Wicked Games).

The film is set to debut on HBO Max.

The Final Destination films have, to date, grossed $657 million worldwide.

Watts is expected to next direct the Marvel reboot of the Fantastic Four superhero franchise, which doesn’t yet have a release or production start date.
