There are so many ways to die in Minecraft that it can be tough to watch out for them all. With the right armor enchantments, though, you can negate a lot of them. You can change a Creeper from a surprise terror to an annoyance, and turn a deadly fall into a minor inconvenience. Note: This guide focuses on the Bedrock version of Minecraft, available on Windows 10, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and mobile.

Enchantments To Apply To Any Armor

While there are some important enchantments specific to certain pieces, there are also a few enchantments that you’d want to get on every piece of armor, ideally.

Protection I-IV – Reduces most types of damage by 4% per level, with a one-level bonus for Protection IV, for a total of 20% per piece, up to 80% damage reduction total.Unbreaking I-III – Reduces the frequency with which items degrade when used.Mending – Repairs item durability using experience gained through mining, killing hostile mobs, etc.

Helmet

Helmet-specific enchantments are some of the lower priority ones unless you plan on spending a lot of time underwater. Aside from the universal ones above, these are both aquatic in nature and can be applied as needed.

Respiration III – Extends underwater breathing time by 15 seconds per enchantment level.Aqua Affinity – Increases underwater mining speed

Boots

For boots, though, one of the enchantments is

Depth Strider I-III – Reduces slowdown caused by being in water by 1/3 per levelFeather Falling I-IV – Reduces fall damage by 12% per level.

Armor Enchantments To Skip

The enchantments above don’t cover all of the possible options out there–there are a few we skipped, but for good reason.

Fire and Projectile Protection – While these enchantments do protect you nicely from the particular elements, they’re very specific, and are incompatible with Protection. General Protection is much more effective, as it will apply to creepers, zombies, arrows, fire, and well, everything else.Frost Walker – This enchantment is incompatible with Depth Strider, and unless you’re planning on spending the majority of your time in icy biomes, it just won’t be as useful.Soul Speed – Like Frost Walker, this enchantment is really only useful if you’re going to spend a ton of time in the Nether, and the fact that it damages your boots over time just makes it too much of a headache to worry about.Thorns – The same goes for Thorns. This enchantment reflects damage back at your enemies, but at the cost of armor durability, and without doing enough damage to make it worthwhile.
