The Hellraiser Reboot Has Found Its Pinhead

After years of development purgatory, the reboot of 1987 horror classic Hellraiser is finally full-steam ahead with director David Bruckner, set for release on Hulu in the US. Principal photography has been completed and a full cast list has been released by production company Spyglass Media, including a new face for the series’ most iconic villain: Pinhead.

Jamie Clayton (Sense8, The L Word) will be taking up the mantle and stepping into the role first originated by Doug Bradley. Bradley, who played the character across eight of the franchise’s 10 installments, only recently stepped away from the role as of 2011’s Hellraiser: Revelations. Clayton will be the first woman and first trans actor to play the part.

In addition to Clayton’s Pinhead, the reboot will star Odessa A’zion (Grand Army), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), Goran Visnjic (The Boys), Drew Starkey (Love, Simon), Adam Faison (Everything’s Gonna Be Okay), Aoife Hinds (Anne Boleyn), and Hiam Abbass (Succession.) The screenplay has been written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (The Night House). Series creator Clive Barker is producing.

In a press release, Bruckner had high praise of both Barker’s stewardship of the reboot and Clayton’s job in her role. “It’s been such an honor to have Clive onboard to help support and shepherd us through the incredible universe he created so long ago,” he said. “Combined with a fearless and committed cast, including the amazing Jamie Clayton, who fully embodies the role as the Hell Priest, we’re aiming to create a very special new chapter in the Hellraiser legacy.”

Clayton herself shared the announcement on social media.

No release date has been set for the Hellraiser reboot, which will be distributed exclusively on Hulu within the US.
