Actor David Harbour has dropped some pretty strong hints about what to expect from his character’s arc in the upcoming Season 4 of Stranger Things. Although this video interview with Entertainment Tonight was ostensibly to discuss his role as Red Guardian in the recently released Black Widow, Harbour went surprisingly deep on the Netflix series.
“It’s my favorite season,” said Harbour. “I just love it… I think the scripts get better, the show gets bigger in a certain way, but it also gets more fun.” Check out the full clip–cued up to the beginning of the Stranger Things discussion–below.
Harbour also added that Season 4, which is likely coming to Netflix in 2022, gave him “the heaviest dramatic stuff I’ve ever had to do” in portraying Jim Hopper “at his most vulnerable.” The biggest hint came when Harbour said that the season will “reveal a lot of backstory points we’ve only hinted at in boxes in his attic… [we’re] lay[ing] it out finally.” Harbour noted these particular plot points were discussed among himself and the Duffer Brothers from the very beginning–when they weren’t even sure if they’d get a Season 2.
Season 4 of Stranger Things is slowly taking shape and becoming a reality. In June, several new cast members were added to the series during Netflix’s Geeked Week event.
The Entertainment Tonight interview is worth watching in its entirety–Harbour calls Black Widow a “beautiful gift to the world” and talks about how he prepped for the role before the pandemic, and how he thinks of it now.
