Peacock Has 42 Million Subscribers In The US

NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock has announced it has 42 million sign-ups during it’s Quarter 1 2021 investor call on Thursday. It did not say, however, how many are paid subscribers.

Peacock has a free, ad-supported tier, but much of Peacock’s content–including all of its original content–is behind the Premium and Premium Plus paid paywalls. Peacock gained 9 million subscribers over the past quarter, and the streaming service has made some big moves the past few months.

According to a release, Peacock’s 42 million sign-ups across the US benefit from the exclusive streaming rights to WWE content, as well as The Office. During Quarter 1, Peacock released Superfan Episodes of Season 3 of The Office, which features deleted scenes, and never-before-seen content. Season 1 of the Superfan Episodes launched recently as well.

In the next two quarters, Peacock will likely continue to see a steady growth, as NBC is the home of the Tokyo Olympics. Peacock has announced four daily shows exclusive to the streaming service, which will begin airing July 24. Peacock will also be streaming events, which will undoubtedly see more people flock to the platform.

Additionally, at the beginning of Quarter 2, Peacock was the exclusive home to Wrestlemania 37 in the US, as the WWE Network was sunset domestically, which will also help boost the service’s numbers in the future.
