Movie About Steven Spielberg's Life Adds Paul Dano As His Father

Actor Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood, Little Miss Sunshine) has been cast in the upcoming semi-autobiographical movie about legendary director Steven Spielberg’s life. He will play Spielberg’s father, Arnold, according to Variety.

Dano is just the latest big name to join the cast of the untitled film, following Michelle Williams, who plays Spielberg’s mother, and Seth Rogen, who will play his uncle. Dano will be seen next as The Riddler in the 2022 The Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson.

The movie tells the story of Spielberg’s youth in the late ’50s and early ’60s in Arizona. This was a formative time in his life; it’s when he filmed movies on a Super 8 camera with friends and also when his parents began to struggle with their marriage.

Not all of the casting announcements have been made yet; we still don’t know who will play the young Steven Spielberg.

HBO made a documentary in 2017 called “Spielberg,” but this is the first feature film about the director’s life. Spielberg is co-writing the script alongside his longtime collaborator Tony Kushner, who wrote Spielberg’s Munich and Lincoln. It’s the first time since A.I. that Spielberg is officially involved in the writing of one of his movies.

Filming is expected to begin this summer with an eye toward releasing the film in 2022. Spielberg’s next movie is the new version of West Side Story, which is expected to come to cinemas at the end of 2021.
