Hobbs And Shaw Director Talks About Sequel Possibilities For The Fast & Furious Movie

The director of the Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw has spoken about the possibility of making a sequel someday. David Leitch told Deadline that he would be thrilled to work in that universe again, but as of right now, there don’t seem to be any plans to do so.

“I love that world. I mean there’s never been any real discussions about how it would all move forward, but as a fan of it all, I want it to move forward, with what the team collectively created,” he said. “There’s just so much opportunity there with Jason [Statham] and Dwayne [Johnson], and like all the other characters we brought into that world, you know, Ryan [Reynolds], Rob Delaney.”

Leitch also mentioned Kevin Hart, who had a role in the film, as contributing to the potential “fertile ground” to make a sequel. It might be tricky to sync up schedules for all the movie stars, considering they are very big names who already have a lot on their plates.

“I think it’s about finding people’s windows and carving out some creative ideas and seeing if people want to come and play and move forward. We’ll see. It definitely would be fun,” he said.

Hobbs & Shaw made more than $750 million globally, and it’s part of the Fast & Furious universe, so it appears there would be a business opportunity to make a sequel.

Leitch’s latest project is the action movie Nobody, which stars Bob Odenkirk and opens today, March 26. Leitch is a producer on the movie with his company, 87North. Leitch is also known for his extensive work in stunts and for co-directing John Wick.

In other news, Vin Disel’s son has joined the cast for Fast & Furious 9, which releases on June 25.
