Justice League's Snyder Cut Almost Featured Ryan Reynolds In A Surprising Green Lantern Cameo

Zack Snyder’s new version of Justice League almost featured actor Ryan Reynolds, but not in the way you might have guessed. Snyder said in an interview that he had an idea for Reynolds to appear as Green Lantern in the movie as a second lantern.

“There was another idea I had for the Green Lantern that wasn’t Ryan,” he told THR. “I thought if we had gone down this path of Green Lantern, I would have had to have Ryan as the additional lantern. But that’s another story.”

Reynolds played Hal Jordan/Green Lantern in the 2011 movie Green Lantern. The actor, who went to star as the Marvel Universe character Deadpool, had never seen the finished version of Green Lantern until he watched it on the evening of March 17. Helping him get through it was his own brand of Aviation Gin, and you can follow the thread on Twitter to see how it all went down.

It’s also revealed in the THR interview that Joker actor Jared Leto made the decision to ad-lib the line “We live in a society” that was featured in the Snyder Cut trailer. Although the Snyder Cut is more than 4 hours long, the editors decided to cut this line from the final movie.

“We went back and forth with it. I’ll give Jared credit for that,” Snyder said. “Little ad-lib there.”

Snyder did not receive payment for his work on the Snyder Cut. “I’m not getting paid… I didn’t want to be beholden to anyone, and it allowed me to keep my negotiation powers,” he said.

GameSpot’s Snyder Cut review scored the movie a 3/10.

“The four hour long re-cut of the 2018 box office bomb, complete with extra scenes and re-shoots will land on HBO Max on March 18 and–well, if you’ve ever been brave enough to ask the question ‘is it possible for a superhero movie to feel like watching paint dry?’ This one’s for you,” reviewer Mason Downey wrote.

The Justice League Snyder Cut is available to stream right now on HBO Max.
