Brie Larson To Star In A New Apple TV+ Show

Actress Brie Larson is kicking off 2021 by signing on to star in a new TV show for Apple TV+. The Oscar-winning Captain Marvel actress will appear in and executive produce the new show Lessons in Chemistry, a 1960s period drama about a single mother who wants to be a scientist but ends up hosting a cooking show.

The TV show is based on the 2022 book from Bonnie Garmus. Larson plays the character Elizabeth Zott. Here is the official description, as relayed by Variety:

“Set in the early 1960s, Lessons in Chemistry follows Elizabeth Zott (Larson), whose dream of being a scientist is put on hold in a society deeming that women belong in the domestic sphere, not the professional one. When Elizabeth finds herself pregnant, alone and fired from her lab, she musters the ingenuity only a single mother has. She accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show, and sets out to teach a nation of overlooked housewives–and the men who are suddenly listening–a lot more than recipes, all the while craving a return to her true love: science.”

This is the second Apple TV+ show that Larson is attached to, as she’s also lined up to appear in an untitled CIA drama. That show and Lessons in Chemistry were both ordered to series instead of just a pilot or a different commitment.

Susannah Grant, the co-creator of the TV show Unbelievable and writer of the movies Erin Brockovich and Pocahontas, is writing Lessons in Chemistry. It is produced by actor Jason Bateman’s Aggregate Films.

It’s not immediately clear when Lessons in Chemistry and the untitled CIA drama will begin filming, as Larson is scheduled to film Captain Marvel II in 2021, according to reports.
