Re:Verse Is A New Resident Evil Multiplayer Game

Capcom has announced Re:Verse, a new multiplayer experience set in the Resident Evil universe. The game features multiple heroes and villains from across the survival horror series coming together in a deathmatch scenario. Naturally, there’s the added threat of zombies wandering around and also felled players returning from the dead. You can check out the debut trailer below.

Producer Tsuyoshi Kanda appeared during the Resident Evil Showcase to explain that Re:Verse is one of the ways that Capcom is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Resident Evil this year as the game is “showcasing so many of the characters that fans love.”

Now Playing: Resident Evil Re:Verse – Official Gameplay Teaser Trailer

The Re:Verse showcase began with Leon and Claire facing off in a standoff situation, but other recognizable figures from the series are quickly introduced. Jill appears, engaging in combat with Leon and Claire, and someone is shown dying but then returning as a zombie.

The action takes place from a third-person perspective, rather than first-person. According to the mode’s official website, Re:Verse supports four-to-six-player matches. At least one component of the game will five-minute matches.

At one point, Nemesis joins the fray, Jack Baker from Resident Evil 7 appears, and a Tyrant is shown attacking a person. After dying, you turn into a bioweapon to attack other players. By collecting virus capsules, you can transform into stronger ones, helping you to continue racking up points in your battle against other players.

Although they’re not shown in the video, the key art for Re:Verse features Ada Wong and Hunk too, so they’ll probably be available in some form.

According to Capcom, Re:Verse will be available for free to anyone who purchases Resident Evil Village. The company did not say whether it will be available as a standalone experience. Notably, Re:Verse is available for PS4, Xbox One, and Steam, with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S playing backwards compatible versions. That’s contrary to Village itself, which has native next-gen versions. Re:Verse’s website notes an internet connection is required, so don’t expect any options for offline local play.

Resident Evil Village releases on May 7, 2021 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Read more about it in our RE Village preorder guide.
