Halo: MCC Update Will Let You Turn Off The New Halo 3 Armors

343 Industries is rolling out some changes to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, including the ability to toggle off custom armor in Halo 3 after fans spoke out.

Several new armors for Halo 3 recently came to MCC, but the feedback came in swiftly that people wanted the option to keep the game looking like it did all those years ago. In response to this, 343 will add the ability to toggle off the new armors.

“We heard you and are happy to report that this feature is coming to MCC,” the developer said in a blog post.

Similar to how players are able to toggle off the new weapon skins, 343 is planning to allow people to switch off the new armors. “If you prefer a true classic experience, you’ll be able to flip the ‘New Skins in Halo 3’ toggle to ‘disabled’ and you won’t see any new cosmetic items (weapon skins, vehicle skins, or armor) when you’re playing Halo 3,” 343 said. “If you decide to turn off cosmetics, any players in your game who are wearing new armor will appear as default Mark VI.”

343 thanked fans for their ongoing support and feedback around MCC as the studio tries to bring in fresh experiences to these older games. “Once again, we’re grateful to be able to partner with our players to make your MCC experiences even better,” 343 said.

In addition to that change, 343 is introducing an updated map for Halo: Reach. A new version of the Pit is being added that makes a color palette change to add some new spice and variety.

“With this change, we aim to break up the similar look of many maps that use the same color palettes. In a nutshell, it takes advantage of our ‘Thorage’ update and breathes some life into the map by moving away from the traditionally grey aesthetics,” 343 said. “It has also allowed us to fix various geometry issues present in the original. We hope you enjoy it and do not hesitate to reach out in our feedback threads to share your thoughts!”

In other Halo news, Microsoft is releasing a new Halo audiobook that is narrated by none other than the voice actor for 343 Guilty Spark. 2021 is a big year for Halo and the Xbox brand, as both celebrate their 20th anniversaries this year, and Halo Infinite is finally releasing following a delay.
