In case you missed it, Dragon Quest: The Dark Prince is a creature-collecting game and was released in December with seemingly little fanfare behind it. In this installment, you play as the antagonist from Dragon Quest IV, Psaro, who is cursed and is unable to harm anything with monster blood. Fortunately, the monsters under the command of Psaro don’t share that curse, and you’ll embark on a quest to capture more powerful creatures and combine them into new forms using the power of synthesis.

With over 500 monsters to scout, battle, and assist on your journey, you’ll be busy creating a one-of-a-kind roster of creatures that can help you survive the fantastical environments of Nadiria. On GameSpot’s sister site Metacritic, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince has an average metascore of 72 from 39 reviews, with several reviews highlighting its simplified approach to attract newcomers to the Dragon Quest Monsters series, while veterans will find plenty of nostalgic appeal here.
