Remember when far-right fans found out Prime Video’s The Boys was making fun of them? As Homelander became this memeable figure that some idolized, the parallels between the superpowered would-be fascist–who is on trial himself in the upcoming season–and former President Trump inch closer.
After Trump debuted his branded sneakers at a Sneaker Con event, the day after he was hit with a $355 civil fraud ruling, the Vought International Twitter account announced that Homelander would also drop his own kicks.
“Today, Vought is proud to announce the Homelander High-Tops! Based on our greatest hero’s boots, these shoes will make you feel like you can fly. Available at a Super deal of $777, with all proceeds going to his legal defense fund. Get yours before his sham of a trial on June 13!”
At the end of Season 3, Homelander killed a man who threw something at his son Ryan, in front of a crowd of his own supporters with large fanfare. It mirrors Trump’s “Fifth Avenue” speech from years ago, which is apt since showrunner Eric Kripke has always had Homelander as a Trump analog.
“The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power,” reads a line from Season 4’s official description. “Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.”
Season 4 of The Boys hits Prime Video on June 13.
