Theoretical Bloodborne Remake Could Receive "Value" From New Hardware, Miyazaki Says

Bloodborne and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki wouldn’t state outright if a Bloodborne remake for more modern hardware is in the works during a new interview, but he did say new hardware in a general sense gives “remakes value,” adding fuel to the fire for the game’s passionate fanbase.

From Software’s classic action-RPG laced with gothic horror trappings was only ever released on PlayStation 4, leaving many fans clamoring for a Bloodborne re-release or remake that would take advantage of more recent hardware like the PS5 or modern PCs. Speaking with Eurogamer, Miyazaki didn’t have anything to officially announce or confirm when it came to a Bloodborne remake but did speak on how new hardware benefits remakes of older games.

“I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value,” Miyazaki said. “Things you weren’t able to achieve on previous generations of hardware, ways you weren’t able to render specific expressions–[new hardware] sometimes makes it possible.

“However, I wouldn’t say that’s the be all and end all,” he said. “I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important. I think that can be the driving force between bridging an old game to a new platform.”

Miyazaki went on to thank Bloodborne fans for their passion and noted that it makes both him and the development team happy to see so much continued interest in the 2015 title.

“It is a title we hold very dear and just as much as our fans,” Miyazaki said. “It does make me very happy to see that there are still so many people passionate about it.”

Fans, however, haven’t been waiting patiently for a Bloodborne remake or remaster. Some have taken matters into their own hands, with someone managing to get unofficially get Bloodborne running on PS5 at 60fps at 1080p. From Software is currently working on Elden Ring’s first DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, which just received a gameplay trailer and June 21 release date. Shadow of the Erdtree will introduce a whole new region for players to explore, the Land of Shadow, as they follow in the footsteps of Miquella, the brother of Elden Ring’s most infamous boss, Malenia.
