Ewan McGregor Gives Update On Obi-Wan Season 2, And It Doesn't Sound Good

Ewan McGregor came back to play Obi-Wan Kenobi for the 2022 TV series Obi-Wan, but will we get to see more of McGregor as Obi-Wan with a second season? Don’t count on it. McGregor told Variety that he would “love” to make a Season 2, but “there’s no talk of it yet.”

He added: “There is a lot going on at Disney.” He did not elaborate on this, however.

In 2023, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy said Obi-Wan Season 2 was not in “active development” at the time. She said there is “always the possibility” of a sophomore season being made, going on to say that McGregor “really wants to do another.”

Season 1 was generally well-received. In addition to bringing McGregor back as Obi-Wan, the TV show saw Hayden Christensen come back as Darth Vader.

Also in the interview, McGregor said he had second thoughts about playing Obi-Wan in the first place in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. “I didn’t think it was at all who I was,” McGregor said. In the end, though, the actor took the role and said he ultimately feels happy about it, despite a poor critical reception to the prequel series.

“When these films came out, they were so disliked. That was hard. The first one was panned and we still had to make another two! It was weird to be in a film that was hammered,” he said.

While Obi-Wan Season 2 might not happen soon, or ever, another fan-favorite Star Wars show, Andor, is set to come back later this year. There are also multiple Star Wars movies in the works, including one that brings back Daisy Ridley as Rey.
