Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition Officially Announced After Playable Version Leaks

After surprisingly popping up on Ubisoft+ yesterday, November 28, Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition has officially been announced. Ubisoft added that the action-adventure game remaster is planned to release early next year.

The Beyond Good & Evil account on Twitter/X acknowledged that people were actually playing an “early development version” of the game that accidentally appeared on Ubisoft+. Eurogamer even reports watching 30 minutes of this build, adding that an Xbox Store page briefly appeared for the 20th Anniversary Edition, too. The listing said the game features “4K and 60fps with improved graphics, controls, and audio, along with brand-new autosave and cross-save features.”

Ubisoft plans to reveal more details about the game as the calendar turns to 2024. Previously, Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition leaked after an ESRB rating appeared in August. That mentioned the remaster would launch on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. However, none of those platforms have been confirmed yet.

Beyond Good & Evil came out in November 2003, interestingly alongside Prince of Persia: Sands of Time on PS2. Jeff Gerstmann penned GameSpot’s Beyond Good & Evil review, saying: “While the game’s repetitive nature and short length take away from its overall impact, Beyond Good & Evil is a fantastic-looking game that tells its story well.”

A sequel was first announced in 2008 before a reimagined prequel eventually appeared at E3 2017. Sadly, Beyond Good & Evil 2’s creative director Emile Morel died earlier this year.
