24-Year-Old Star Wars Game Coming To Modern Consoles

Aspyr has brought back several classic Star Wars video games to the current generation of consoles and PC, including Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars: Battlefront, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. Now, Aspyr has revealed that its next revival title will be Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles. There’s even a first-look trailer at the old-school thrills of the game’s arcade-style action.

The game is a loose retelling of the events that unfolded in Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn went through that adventure as they faced off against the Trade Federation’s deadly battle droids in an attempt to save the planet Naboo from conquest. One of the key differences between the game and the film is that Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon aren’t the only main characters available to use.

Mace Windu, Plo Koon, and Adi Gallia are returning alongside unlockable characters like Queen Padme Amidala, Captain Panaka, Ki-Adi Mundi, a battle droid, and even Darth Maul. Another tweak to the game will give Jedi Masters–including Mace Windu–the chance to have on-screen-accurate lightsaber colors or the standard lightsaber colors that originally came with the game.

The announcement trailer also demonstrates the game’s Big Head Mode, as well as other cheats that can be used. Co-op gameplay is an option, but players can also face each other in the game’s Versus mode.

Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles will hit Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on January 23, 2025. If the game follows the same pattern as Aspyr’s previous Star Wars games, there may be a physical edition available through Limited Run Games as well.
