Andrew Garfield Has Hilarious Response About Next Spider-Man Movie

It’s no secret that Spider-Man 4–whatever it might be subtitled–is on the way from Marvel Studios, and could be ready by 2026, though no confirmation is set in Marvel’s ever-shifting schedule. Aside from Tom Holland suiting up again, Shang-Chi’s director Destin Daniel Cretton stepping in for Jon Watts, and the screenwriting duo of Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers returning, not much is known about the production. That includes if the multiverse hijinks of multiple Spider-Men are involved once again.

That doesn’t stop Andrew Garfield from getting pressed for his involvement, even if it’s non-existent. During a live special of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, host Josh Horowitz had a long conversation with the actor that eventually turned to Spider-Man talks like if he was thinking about returning and if there have been conversations.

“Yeah, of course, your assumption is not unfounded,” Garfield told Horowitz. “If I was in your position, I can imagine going, ‘Yeah, he’s probably had some conversations,’ too, yeah.”

Horowitz continued further, trying to get a straight answer, but Garfield is easily a professional at this by now. Horowitz tried asking the actor if he had any ideas for the next Spider-Man installment.

“I also understand that question as well,” Garfield replied playfully. “I also understand in your position you’re going to be wondering, because it was such a success, that you’d go, ‘Well they must be talking about it.'”

Horowitz laughed it off, but tried one last time to get anything and simply asked if he were a betting man, should he put money on Garfield’s return? Garfield was having none of it, and also laughed.

“This feels a little tantamount to illegal, kind of insider trading in some kind of way,” he joked. “No matter what I say, I could be held liable for that, and I’m going to decline to comment.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home became an instant fan-favorite MCU film and the last real mega-hit for Marvel Studios for years raking in almost $2 billion at the global box office–until this year’s Deadpool and Wolverine earning $1.3 billion. The film featured a Spider-Man team-up of three generations taking down four villains from previous movies and sets Peter Parker on his friendly neighborhood Spider-Man trajectory.
