Andrew Garfield Is "Definitely Open" To Playing Spider-Man Again

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home. If you haven’t watched and don’t want to be spoiled, stop reading.

In a new interview, actor Andrew Garfield has revealed that he is “definitely open” to playing Spider-Man in a future film again, “if it felt right.” Garfield spoke with Variety for a wide-ranging Q&A touching both on his return to the Spider-Verse and also his turn in 2021 playing Rent creator Jonathan Larson in Tick, Tick… Boom.

Garfield explains that he views Peter Parker as “a working-class boy from Queens that knows struggle and loss and is deeply empathetic. I would try to borrow Peter Parker’s framework in that… if there was an opportunity to step back in and tell more of that story, I would have to feel very sure and certain in myself.”

Now that Spider-Man: No Way Home is firmly in the rear view, we all know the film featured a reunion of a trio of Spider-Man actors–Garfield, Tom Holland, and Tobey Maguire all appear. In a recent interview published on Marvel’s website actor Zendaya revealed how much the three of them bonded: “It was so beautiful to see all of you guys connect on that and be able to talk to each other about such a special experience that very few people have been able to don the suit.”

Although Garfield’s comment is not quite a confirmation that he will again reprise the role, it does indicate the possibility is there. For what it’s worth, Holland has said in a recent interview that by the time he’s 30, he wants to step away from the Spider-Man role–and that’s five years away. Garfield is 38.
