As part of the PlayStation State of Play event, Larian Studios announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 is headed to console. Previously, it was confirmed only for PC.
The game will launch on August 31 on PlayStation 5 and PC. An Xbox release has not been announced yet, but the game could, in theory, come to Xbox down the road. A new trailer was also released. [Update: An Xbox version is in the works, but the Series S version is apparently presenting problems.]
Baldur’s Gate 3 will have split-screen co-op on console, as well as cross-progression between PC, Mac, and PS5. An Xbox release may also be on tap. Or it may not be.
“Right now we’re planning to release Baldur’s Gate 3 for PC, Mac, GeForce Now, and PS5,” a spokesperson for Larian told Eurogamer. “That said, we have no exclusivity and will announce support for additional platforms if and when we’re ready.”
Larian Studios also announced a new character for Baldur’s Gate III, General Ketheric Thromthe, who is voiced by Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons. Ketheric is one of three main villains in the game.
“Ketheric’s plans for the people of Faerûn are as complex as his motivations, and so we knew his role would benefit from the kind of depth and gravitas that renowned character actor could provide,” Larian said.
