Baldur's Gate 3 Could Add Split-Screen On Xbox Series S After Launch

The Xbox Series S split-screen saga with Baldur’s Gate 3 may not end for a while. Microsoft is now stating that the feature could come to the RPG after launch, though no promises were made.

On Twitter/X, the official Xbox account wrote that “we’ll continue to work with Larian to explore the addition of split-screen on Series S post launch.” This comes after the developer revealed Baldur’s Gate 3 will release this year after all on Xbox Series X|S, thanks to Xbox head Phil Spencer agreeing to let the team drop split-screen support for Xbox Series S. The feature will be available on Xbox Series X.

Now Playing: Baldur's Gate 3 – Multiclass Guide

In February, Larian discussed the Series S snag for Baldur’s Gate 3 and why it was holding up the RPG from releasing on Xbox. Baldur’s Gate 3 will launch on PS5 on September 6, with no specific date detailed yet for Xbox Series X|S.

Baldur’s Gate 3 cross-saves will work on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, courtesy of developer Larian’s account system. So when the RPG does arrive on Xbox later this year, players can sync their data if they played the title on another platform.

The RPG officially launched on PC earlier this month after being in Early Access since 2020. It’s been a huge hit, with Baldur’s Gate 3 players averaging more than 5 hours of playtime per day (though idling is included in the engagement metric).
