Larian Studios has released another Baldur’s Gate 3 update to address a file corruption issue that was seeing some players lose their saves.
Hotfix 2.1 is now live and it turns out that the problem revolves around those whose personal databases–which includes the players’ progress and decisions–got too big. Larian resolved the problem by increasing the size to “infinite” to avoid overloading the capacity, which resulted in corrupted save files (via Eurogamer).

Now Playing: Baldur's Gate 3 Everything to Know
“As it turns out, many of you were doing so much in Baldur’s Gate 3 that some of your personal ‘story’ databases (where your choices and actions are stored) got too big,” Larian explained in the patch notes. “We now made the size infinite (or at least as infinite as you have storage space), to account for the sheer amount of things you’re all doing on your journeys.”
It seems the bug has only affected a small portion of the player base, but those who did lose save files shouldn’t experience the issue again with the release of the hotfix. The developer added that it will also be reactivating cross-saves as the launch of the PlayStation 5 version on September 6 draws closer and that Hotfix 3 is “currently in the oven,” which will provide additional fixes to the game. This patch should arrive “in the near future.”
The second patch was released earlier this week and resolved almost 300 issues, including male gnomes that were experiencing a wardrobe malfunction that left their genitalia exposed through their clothes.
