Bethesda Veteran Pete Hines To Retire After 24 Years Following Starfield Launch

Bethesda’s head of publishing, Pete Hines, has announced that he will retire from Bethesda after 24 years. He mentioned that with the launch of Starfield in September, the timing felt right.

“This is certainly not goodbye by any means. My love for Bethesda and its people has never wavered, and I will never stop being part of this incredible community we have grown,” Hines said in a statement. “Thank you to the hundreds and thousands of fans I’ve gotten to meet and talk to over the last 24 years. Your energy creativity, and support has been such a big part of my journey. I look forward to experiencing the next part of the adventure alongside you.”

Additionally, Bethesda sent out its own statement in the form of a joking doctor’s note. The “head doctors of gratitude” at Bethesda are prescribing him treatment such as gaming time, fostering puppies, card collecting, and hanging out with friends.

Hines has been with Bethesda for quite a while and has spoken about a variety of games and topics throughout his career. He spoke about why Prey 2 was canceled, Skyrim’s paid mods controversy, how the upcoming Indiana Jones game is a Microsoft exclusive, and how Starfield really gets going after its main quest is finished.

Hines also isn’t the only high-profile executive to leave their company this year. Last month, Donald Mustard of Epic Games announced his retirement after having led the incredibly popular Fortnite.
