BioShock Movie Lands Hunger Games Director

Netflix’s BioShock movie has found a director and a writer. Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence will direct the film, with Michael Green (Blade Runner 2049, Logan) writing the script.

The BioShock movie was announced earlier this year, after years of rumor and speculation about the project. Netflix is producing the film alongside rights-owner Take-Two.

Lawrence directed Constantine and I Am Legend, before directing the Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2. Lawrence is also signed on to direct the Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

The BioShock movie is likely still a long time off, as a report from Deadline said Lawrence won’t get to work on pre-production until after the Hunger Games prequel wraps.

Hollywood has been trying to make a BioShock movie for a long time. Years ago, Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski was signed on to make an R-rated BioShock movie with a $200 million budget. However, it never materialized.

A new BioShock game is currently in development at Cloud Chamber Studios, notably without the involvement of creator and writer Ken Levine.
