BRZRKR Writer Joins Matt Reeves For Batman 2 Script

Writer Mattson Tomlin (Netflix’s BRZRKR) helped with The Batman script for its third act, but The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that he will be co-piloting the Batmobile with director Matt Reeves for its upcoming sequel. Though Tomlin didn’t receive screenwriting credit for the assist, he’s now all in for The Batman 2, which is officially greenlit through Reeves’ new overall deal with Warner Bros. Discovery.

Released back in March, The Batman grossed $770.8 million worldwide and received massive amounts of critical praise. It was speculated by fans that this development was squashed with the Warner Bros and Discovery merger but it all boiled down to the deal taking longer to cement because of that. Reeves spoke about his excitement about signing this new deal.

“Making this legendary studio my home is a dream,” said Reeves in a statement via Deadline. “I am so excited to be working with Mike [De Luca], Pam [Abdy], and Channing [Dungey] and our teams to bring captivating stories I am truly passionate about to the big and small screen.”

Details on the sequel haven’t been revealed yet, but Robert Pattinson will be returning as the brooding Bruce Wayne and Gotham’s favorite cryptid, the Batman. The Batman’s original release was delayed because of the pandemic but became the first solo Batman movie to be released in the spring.

Tomlin has been a creator on the rise in his own right with Project Power, starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as well as his directorial debut in 2021 with Mother/Android, a sci-fi thriller starring Chloe Grace Moretz. Reeves and Tomlin bonded while working on Mother/Android, which Reeves also produced.

Tomlin has his own Batman series titled Batman: The Imposter, which was drawn by Andrea Sorrentino. Tomlin’s name can next been seen over at Netflix’s adaptation of the Keanu Reeves and Matt Kindt comic book, BRZRKR, which was announced at this year’s Comic-Con.

Reeves’ new deal at Warner Discovery also confirms that fans are still getting that Penguin TV series spinoff with Colin Farrell, as well as the Arkham Asylum series.
