Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launching later this year, with Sledgehammer Games helming the sequel to last year’s entry. It’s a sequel that will feature some of the most transferable content from a previous entry yet, but it’s still set to get some unique content of its own that was excluded from Modern Warfare 2.
Most notably, Modern Warfare 3 will see the return of Zombies, after the mode was left out of last year’s game. Confirmation comes via a sound clip that you can listen to by interacting with Modern Warfare 3’s latest marketing campaign, where details of the sequel are being shared through a mobile number. If you text “Zombies” to +1 (202) 918-3022 (via Insider Gaming), a brief sound clip featuring the recognizable screams of past Call of Duty zombies will be sent back.

Now Playing: Modern Warfare III – Official Makarov Reveal Trailer
The campaign is offering numerous titbits of information via this method, all of which you can engage with by texting “Ready” to the same number. You can send the message “Stop” to opt out entirely once you’re done.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 continues the story of last year’s retelling of Modern Warfare 2, introducing series antagonist Vladimir Makarov into this new timeline as the game’s central threat. The game will also let players transfer numerous purchases over from Modern Warfare 2, while also apparently featuring many maps from the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009. Activision confirmed that the shooter will also launch on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, meaning the sequel will remain a cross-gen title.
A beta for the shooter is expected in the weeks leading up to launch, with a report suggesting that it will launch first on PlayStation despite Microsoft’s imminent purchase of Activision Blizzard.
