The murderous doll Chucky is coming back to life in a TV series, and now actor Devon Sawa has joined the cast. Franchise creator Don Mancini has cast Sawa–who starred in Final Destination and played Stan in the Eminem music video–as a lead actor on the show.
Sawa confirmed Deadline’s report about his casting in a tweet. He joked, “I’d like to break my silence about Don Macini’s Chucky, by telling you absolutely nothing about the plot, my character, or anything else.”
Jennifer Tilly, who played Tiffany Valentine in the earlier Chucky movies dating back to 1998, will reprise her character for the TV series. Tilly shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set of Bride of Chucky. She also remarked, “Chucky is like that bad boyfriend who is so good that you just can’t quit him.”
It’s also been reported that Zackary Arthur (Transparent), Teo Briones (Ratched), Alyvia Alyn Lind (Daybreak), and Bjorgvin Arnason (The Seventh Day) have been cast as the four teenage leads. The show is coming to USA Network and Syfy.
“In the television series, after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets,” reads a line from the show’s description. “Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies–and allies–from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.”
Deadline also has the character descriptions for the four teenage leads, though Sawa’s character is being kept a secret for now.
The new Chucky TV show is expected to premiere at some point in 2021.
