Dan Harmon has an unexpected ally in Zack Snyder for a possible–and still very hypothetical–upcoming Rick and Morty movie. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Rick and Morty co-creator revealed that Snyder has a good deal of enthusiasm for a film-length adaptation.
According to Harmon, the Justice League director asked for a meeting to discuss a possible Rick and Morty movie. “Not him saying, ‘I get to do it,’ or anything like that,” Harmon said. “He was totally a super fan and was just like, ‘Is there any way I can help get that movie started by using my Snyder-ness?'”
Harmon also joked, “So, the Rick and Morty movie is coming as soon as Zack Snyder gets back from his vacation, because I want to start with a Snyder cut of that movie and then I want to do the director’s cut of a Snyder cut release, so we can just have a six-hour Rick and Morty movie and three hours of it is in black and white.”
While no official plans have been laid out for the movie, Harmon shared that a conversation with Warner Bros. executives made it feel like “it was time to get the ball rolling.” Although no script or outline exists, Harmon stated, “My philosophy would be to just take a Rick and Morty adventure, and spend a bunch of extra money on it and make it 90 minutes long.”
Season 7 of Rick and Morty is set to premiere on October 15. With an extension of an additional 70 episodes already in place–and a Community movie also coming–Harmon has no doubt already been working with his team on lots of story ideas. But the notion of a Rick and Morty movie excites Harmon, who emphasized a desire to keep it separate from the main series, and exist as a more standalone “super badass episode of Rick and Morty.”
