D&D Announces Two New Books, And One Is A Crossover With Magic The Gathering

It’s a big week for Dungeons & Dragons players, as Wizards of the Coast has announced two new books for the tabletop roleplaying game: The Wild Beyond The Witchlight and Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos. If the latter sounds a little familiar, it’s because it takes place in the same world as a recently-released Magic the Gathering set.

Arriving in stores on September 21 is The Wild Beyond The Witchlight. This is the next adventure storyline which will take characters to Feywild for the very first time in Fifth Edition. Details are a bit scarce; however, the book promises “new characters, monsters, mechanics, and story hooks,” according to an Amazon listing for Witchlight.

Additionally, there are two cover reveals. The standard cover is by Tyler Jacobsen and the alternate cover–which will be available at local gaming shops–is by Hydro74. More info will be revealed about the upcoming September release at D&D Live, which will be presented by G4 July 16 and 17.

The second announcement is Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos, which is coming to stores on November 16. Much like Witchlight, the new Strixhaven book will offer “new characters, monsters, mechanics, and story hooks,” which again, reads an Amazon listing. The book takes place at a magical university where schools compete against each other.

Those who followed the Magic The Gathering release of Strixhaven know that the Lesson and Learn mechanics were new for that MTG release, so there’s a good chance those could be incorporated into the latest D&D book. The main cover is by Magali Villeneuve, and there will be an alternate cover by Hydro74. Once again, more will be revealed at D&D Live in July.

While you’ll have to wait for the next couple of D&D books until later this year, you can check out Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft, which expands on creating horror-themed campaigns and lets you fight a brain in a jar. And if you’re looking to up your game, check out the latest Critical Role miniatures and a better look at the WarLock title system.
