Avengers: Secret Wars doesn’t have a director attached to the massive project, but there has been a bit of gossip that Shawn Levy could helm the movie. Apparently, even the Deadpool 3 director has heard the scuttlebutt.
Speaking with ET Canada, Levy was asked about Avengers: Secret Wars and responded vaguely. “I read that rumor, and that’s all I’m gonna say,” he said. It’s intriguing to point out that he didn’t outright deny the gossip as he waits to start back up production on Deadpool 3.
Levy was more open about Deadpool 3 and discussed how the franchise starring Ryan Reynolds will work within the MCU. The first two films starring the Merc With a Mouth released under 20th Century Fox, before Disney purchased the studio.
“It’s raw, it’s a little gritty,” Levy said. “It’s not trying to be slick or too polished. It’s definitely not aliens fighting in space environments, it’s real-world grounded. So, we decided that we were gonna shoot the vast majority of this movie outside in the world. We don’t want it to look like set-extensions on sound stages.”
Deadpool 3’s premiere date seems to be in limbo after Disney removed the movie from its first half of 2024 schedule. Officially, the film is set to release in theaters May 3. But a delay seems inevitable after production was paused because of the Hollywood actors strike.
Meanwhile, Avengers: Secret Wars received a year-long delay in June, now scheduled to premiere May 7, 2027. Loki and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron is reportedly scripting Avengers: Secret Wars. The MCU movie was originally revealed alongside Avengers: The Kang Dynasty at Comic-Con 2022.
