Deadpool Creator's Avengelyne Teams With Margot Robbie And Olivia Wilde – Report

After nearly 30 years, Rob Liefeld’s Avengelyne may finally get a movie adaptation. Via Deadline, Liefeld is reportedly teaming up with Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde on an Avengelyne film. Wilde is attached to direct the movie, while Robbie is only producing the film. But if Robbie decides to play the title role, then it has a better chance of being made.

Liefeld, who co-created Deadpool with writer Fabian Nicieza, first published Avengelyne’s comic-book adventures in 1995. Avengelyne was co-created by Liefeld and former Vampirella model Cathy Christian, who lent her likeness to the character and appeared in cosplay as Avengelyne on several comic-book covers.

The title character of Avengelyne is a fallen angel who is exiled to Earth and stripped of most of her powers. After taking refuge in a local church, Avengelyne discovers that demons are openly planning to bring about Hell on Earth and she devotes herself to stopping them. Avengelyne was part of the ’90s bad-girl craze in comics, although she was far more virtuous than her contemporaries like Lady Death. However, Avengelyne’s publication history is spotty at best, and she hasn’t had her own comic since 2011.

Liefeld has previously attempted to get an Avengelyne adaptation going with Gina Carano in 2013, six years before Carano co-starred in The Mandalorian. That version of the movie didn’t go forward, and in 2016, Paramount picked up the rights with screenwriter Akiva Goldsman attached to the project.

The current Avengelyne movie isn’t set up at any studio or streaming outlet, but it will reportedly soon be shopped around on the strength of Robbie and Wilde’s reputations. We should know soon if Avengelyne gets picked up.
