How to get the Monte Carlo Catalyst in Destiny 2

In order to get the Monte Carlo Catalyst in Destiny 2, you need to complete Strikes, Gambit matches, or Crucible matches. Yes, the Catalyst is a possible drop from any of these activities, which means you’re tied to RNG for this one. Seasonal activities, such as Altars of Summoning, don’t apply.

Once you’ve gotten the Monte Carlo Catalyst, you’ll gain access to an objective to unlock it in full. Basically, all you need to do is defeat 700 enemies. It’s a high number, but as you’re doing PVE activities, you’re bound to tally them up pretty fast. There’s no specific location or enemy type either, which definitely helps.

Ahead of Season of the Witch, Bungie announced upcoming changes for a number of Exotics, including Monte Carlo. If you’ve been looking for an excuse to dust off the weapon from your vault, here’s a good option.

As for what the Monte Carlo Catalyst in Destiny 2 does, the added perk is called Stochastic Vengeance. It feeds into the weapon’s original perks, mainly Markov Chain. Every five attacks of Markov Chain, the alternate fire mode switches between your default melee attack and Monte Carlo’s bayonet. If you land a hit on an enemy with the bayonet, you’ll get melee energy, empowering your next melee hit.

If you’re a player who enjoys throwing hands at any given opportunity across the Solar System, the Catalyst adds a fun synergy with which to play around. Plus, the bayonet animation never gets old. Considering you’ll need to complete quite a few activities to defeat all 700 combatants, make sure to pay attention to any Insight quests to continue uncovering the Deck of Whispers and the cards within.
