Disney CEO Bob Chapek Comments On Gina Carano's Firing From The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian lost its Cara Dune in February after the Star Wars Disney+ series lost Gina Carano. The actor was fired because of social media posts, and now, Disney CEO Bob Chapek has further explained that she was not fired because of her politics.

Chapek explained in a statement (via Variety) that it had nothing to do with politics and that “values that are universal.” He said that Disney wants to make content that is “reflective of the rich diversity of the world that we live in.”

Disney cut ties with the actor after a series of controversial social media posts comparing the persecution of Jewish people by Nazis to hating someone for their political views. This wasn’t the first time Carano found herself in trouble for her social media posts. She’s mocked mask wearing during the current COVID pandemic, promoted misinformation about voter fraud, and expressed transphobic views. Carno had been warned by Disney for previous posts. Carano has moved on to produce a movie with Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro.

This isn’t the first time Disney has let someone go because of posts on social media. In 2018, James Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for joke tweets from a decade prior that were offensive and Gunn had previously apologized for. Gunn apologized again, and after signing on to direct Suicide Squad, he was rehired by Disney to work on the third Guardians movie.
