Doctor Who's New Episodes Are Coming To Disney Plus

The Doctor is about to charter new territory as Disney+ is now the exclusive home for new seasons of Doctor Who outside the UK and Ireland. The confirmation comes after several months of speculation about whether Disney will have its own Doctor series or will buy the purchasing rights. The announcement was made by the next Doctor Who, Ncuti Gatwa, during an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan.

During the announcement, Gatwa broke down the mythos behind Doctor Who and did a sort of 101 intro to the character and the history of the show explaining who the Doctor is and what they’re about. Along with this news, BBC revealed the brand new logo for the upcoming series which will have David Tennant reprise the role of the Doctor, but this time as the 14th incarnation for three specials, before Gatwa takes over the role as the Fifteenth Doctor

“The Doctor is full of optimism and hope, with a fierce sense of right and wrong. They are clever and courageous,” the actor said. “The Doctor doesn’t handle any weapons, just a sonic screwdriver for fixing things and getting out of sticky situations.” He went on to explain the Doctor’s famous regeneration cycle and understanding the daunting responsibility taking on the role.

The new episodes will premiere on the BBC and Disney+ beginning with the upcoming 60th anniversary special, which will premiere in November 2023. However, previous episodes will, for the time being, remain where they are at HBO Max.

“I love this show, and this is the best of both worlds,” showrunner Russell T. Davies said in a press release. “With the vision and joy of the BBC and Disney+ together we can launch the TARDIS all around the planet, reaching a new generation of fans while keeping our traditional home firmly on the BBC in the UK.”
