E3 2023 Is Definitely Still Happening

E3 2023 is still going ahead, even though Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are reportedly skipping the showcase and Ubisoft’s top boss seemingly isn’t sure. The president of E3’s new organizer has confirmed that E3 2023 is “full speed ahead” and on track to take place this June as scheduled.

Lance Fensterman told The Verge: “E3 is full speed ahead and we are pleased with the progress and engagement from the community. As we have confirmed exhibitors we are eager to share more as details get cemented and participants ready their own detailed plans.”

Fensterman went on to say that with ReedPop’s other events, the company doesn’t usually announce participants until closer to kickoff. However, the executive told The Verge that the company “will adjust our style to the E3 way as we can.” This might suggest that ReedPop is gearing up to announce participants relatively soon, which tracks with Fensterman’s other assertion that ReedPop will “have news to share in the next few weeks on some of the exciting new additions to the Remastered E3 2023.”

ReedPop is making this statement after Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot spoke during an earnings call this week and referred to E3 as an “if” rather than a certainty. Before that, IGN reported that Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are skipping E3.

After a three-year hiatus from live events, E3 will return to the Los Angeles Convention Center for E3 2023 from June 13-16, and it will feature separate areas and days for industry and consumer events. Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, meanwhile, begins June 8, and Microsoft has teed up some kind of showcase in Los Angeles during the summer. Sony, meanwhile, is said to be planning a big showcase ahead of E3.
