The first trailer for the highly-anticipated expansion for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, has finally arrived, giving us a look at many of the new bosses preparing to challenge you as well as some of the content’s main antagonists.
As correctly predicted by many when first announced, Shadow of the Erdtree will feature Miquella, brother of infamously brutal boss Malenia, as well as their mother, Queen Marika. There’s mention of the player joining Marika in the shadow realm, which might explain why so many of the areas featured in the gameplay look so different to what you might remember from The Lands Between.

Now Playing: ELDEN RING: Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC | Official Gameplay Reveal Trailer
Outside of the characters that are known, this trailer mostly features looks at a large number of new bosses, many of whom look like they will big large, imposing physical brutes for you to figure out. A hippo-like creature stands out as particularly interesting, while others might remind you of other bosses From Software has designed before. There’s a distinct Sekiro energy to some of the fights shown off, especially one duel that takes place in a field of flowers (with the player character wielding a katana no less). There’s no connection between the two games, so this might just serve as a nice nod to players familiar with From Software’s library.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will be $40 and feature a Collector’s edition when it launches on June 21, 2024, for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
