Fallout 76’s next expansion will see the Brotherhood of Steel expand its operations and future, with players having a pivotal role in one of the oldest factions in Fallout history. New types of power armor–including an extremely patriotic version–and weapons will be available in Steel Reign, which launches on July 7.
According to Bethesda, Steel Reign’s story begins with a return to Fort Atlas, only to discover that the alliance between Paladin Rahmani and Knight Shin have reached a boiling point. Super Mutants have begun gathering, with players needing to make a choice between justice and duty as they guide the Brotherhood.
Steel Reign’s campaign will take place across Appalachia and will also feature new locations, while the Season 5 scoreboard will see the return of adventurous historian and time traveler K.D. Inkwell from the 42nd century. Players can rank up to unlock new rewards including C.A.M.P. items, cosmetics, and more, while Legendary Crafting will allow for the opportunity to create 1, 2, and 3-star legendary items.
The other big news from the E3 2021 reveal of Fallout 76‘s upcoming content is that players will also be able to take an Expedition to the Pitt, a city built in the ruins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as part of a new expansion in 2022. The Pitt was originally available in Fallout 3 as part of add-on content and was primarily a Raider-dominated city in that game.
It’s worth noting that Fallout 76’s battle royale mode Nuclear Winter is coming to an end in September, due to a lack of people actively taking part in the mode. Bethesda previously said that it had become “challenging” to deliver major updates to Nuclear Winter while at the same time creating more content to Fallout 76’s other, more popular modes.
“With all of this in mind, we are currently planning to sunset Nuclear Winter Mode in an update coming this September,” Bethesda said.
