In addition to this announcement, Square Enix also gave fans a deep dive into some of Rebirth’s new features. Most notably, the game will now contain a wide array of side quests and mini-games, dialogue options that impact your relationships with other party members, and a Folio system that grants party members new battle abilities. GameSpot covered these changes, as well as several others, in our Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth preview.

Based on the studio’s teases and recent trailers, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will follow Cloud and the gang as they journey all the way from Midgar’s outskirts to the City of the Ancients (and will end around the original’s Disc 1). However, what happens at the city–and to a certain character in particular–is naturally being kept under wraps. That said, we won’t be waiting too much longer to discover what fate has in store for the heroes, as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth releases February 29, 2023 on PlayStation 5 exclusively.
