What are Summon Crystals?
Summon crystals are stones littered throughout the world that contain information on the deities and creatures you summon. Each summon presides over a specific region of the world, and that’s where you can find their three corresponding summon crystals.
What Do Summon Crystals Do?
You still need to defeat a summon inside Chadley’s combat simulator to obtain its summon materia, but the combat simulator battles in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are extremely tough. Finding all three summon crystals for a specific summon will lower the difficulty of their simulated fight to give you a better chance at earning the materia reward.
Even if you don’t need the help, each summon crystal you find will increase the level of the corresponding materia, allowing summons to use more abilities and deal more damage when you call on them. For example, finding all three summon crystals in the Junon region will strengthen the Phoenix summon materia, giving it the ability to revive downed party members.
How to Find Summon Crystals
Summon crystals are found in caves like the one in the image above, but they’re tough to find if you’re just wandering around the map hoping to get lucky. There are two surefire ways to find what you’re looking for–following guidestones and activating Chadley’s remnawave towers.
Follow Guidestones
Guidestones are odd-looking rocks with patterns that often appear in large numbers. If you ever see guidestones along a path while exploring, don’t hesitate to follow the trail and see where they lead. Destroy any glowing guidestones you see to release a guiding light that’ll lead you straight to a summon crystal.
Activate Remnawave Towers
It wouldn’t be an open-world game without towers to climb that unlock more of the map. Remnawave towers function as you’d expect–they reveal points of interest for the surrounding area. If there are any summon crystals nearby, an active remnawave tower will automatically mark it on your map
