The first trailer for Paddington in Peru–the most important film of the year–has arrived, showcasing the lovable bear’s journey to his homeland of Peru to reunite with his Aunt Lucy. The only problem? Aunt Lucy is nowhere to be found, so it’s up to Paddington and the Brown family to explore the Amazon rainforest and the mountain peaks of Peru in their quest to find her. That’s easier said than done, as Paddington still attracts bad luck like a house of broken mirrors.
Paddington in Peru once again features Ben Whishaw voicing the clumsy but charming bear, and on the live-action side, Hugh Bonneville, Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin, Julie Walters, and Jim Broadbent as various members of the Brown family and their friends. Sally Hawkins, who played Mary Brown in the first two Paddington films, handed the role over to Emily Mortimer for the threequel. New faces include Academy Award winner Olivia Colman and Antonio Banderas, who Paddington meets when he lands in Peru.
In case you missed them, Paddington 1 and 2 have been both critical and commercial success stories. The first film was released in 2014 and was followed by a star-studded sequel in 2017 that introduced the world to the brutal brilliance of Knuckles McGinty, played by Brendan Gleeson. Remember, if you cross him, don’t ask for a medic. Ask for a priest instead.
If you’re looking to watch the film–and smuggle in some marmalade sandwiches past cinema security–you won’t have too long to wait before Paddington in Peru debuts, if you don’t mind catching a flight across the pond. It’ll be released in UK cinemas on November 8, and it’ll arrive in the US on January 17, 2025.
