Following Game Relaunch, MultiVersus Developer Now Has A New Owner

Warner Bros. Games has announced that it acquired Player First Games, the developer of MultiVersus.

Player First Games co-founders Tony Huynh and Chris White will continue to run the studio while also reporting to Carlos Barbosa, vice president and studio head of Warner Bros. Games San Diego.

“Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall,” Huynh said in a statement. “We are working to make the MultiVersus game experience the best it can be and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the players.”

Warner Bros. Games president David Haddad added, “We have worked with Player First Games over several years to create and launch MultiVersus, and we are very pleased to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros. Games. The bright and creative team at Player First Games adds to our extensive development capabilities.”

MultiVersus launched back in 2022 in open beta for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. After a year, Warner Bros. Games pulled it from digital storefronts but assured players that all of its content would remain when it returned. The game finally returned on May 28 with some extra incentives to get players to jump back in.

Warner Bros. Games also recently revealed that Samurai Jack and Beetlejuice would be added to the game as part of Season 2. In GameSpot’s MultiVersus review, we said, “Warner Bros’ all-star battle proves to be a worthy contender to the platform fighter throne.”
